Kareena Kapoor’s Top 10 Performances
6. 3 Idiots: Everyone had very low expectations from Kareena in 3 idiots because it was the story of 3 guys (as the title of the film suggests). Still she managed to a make a mark for herself in this hero oriented film. Her portrayal of Pia, a medical student who falls in love with rancho (played by Aamir) was amazing. Aamir andKareena looked so cute together on screen and their tender romance throughout the film was heartwarming. She displayed great variations in her short role; from the drunken scene with Aamir and saying ‘tumhe ab bhi lagta hai ke kiss karne pe naak beech mein aati hai’ (do u still feel that your nose would come between us while we kiss) to her confrontation scene with her dad (played by Boman) and telling him that he is the reason why her brother committed suicide. Her leaving a mark in this film with her performance says a lot about her being such a superb actress and the numero uno actress in bollywood. She won Best Actress Awards at various events.
5. Refugee : Kareena made her bollywood debut with this J.P. Dutta directed film opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Being from the first family of Bollywood, theKapoors, and being Karisma’ younger sister, she came into the industry with huge expectations. But boy, she didn’t disappoint. She was seen playing aBangladeshi girl Naaz, who falls in love with a Refuge, played by Abhishek Bachchan who helps her and her family to migrate across border. She wore absolutely no makeup in the film and still looked gorgeous as the village girl. As far as her acting skills were concerned, she proved that it was in her genes being a Kapoor. She was a complete natural in front of the camera. She did the emotional scenes as well as the romantic scenes with equal ease. Watch out for her in the song ‘Aisa Lagta Hai, jo naa hua hone ko hai’, her expressions and body language as a shy demure girl who realizes she has fallen in love are priceless. Not to forget, she brought the old world charm with her printed salwar kameezes and undone hair. Her decision of not doing Kaho Naa Pyar Hai paid off with her bagging the Filmfare Best Female Debut in that year for Refugee.
10. Golmaal 3: Many of you would not be happy to see this film in the top 10. But I felt that Kareena is such a versatile actress and this film deserves to be in the top 10 just because of the fact that it showed kareena’s capability of doing comic roles with equal ease. She was the central character of the film and played a tomboy named ‘Dabboo’. She was seen wearing cool t shirts and baggy pants in the film and used foul language. She was very funny with her one liners like ‘Ae Titanic ke doobte jahaz’ and ‘kuch hi der mein maa ki aankh hone wali hai’. Also the film was promoted and marketed as a kareena film keeping in view her market standing and using her stardom to draw wider audience.
Kurbaan : Again one of kareena’s best performance; she played the role of a professor Avantika Ahuja who falls in love with a Muslim man only to find out that her husband is a terrorist. She was superb in the film and delivered a great performance. The scene where she finds out that her husband Ehsaan (played by Saif) is a terrorist is very well shot. Avantika is shocked with this discovery and also feels cheated by her own husband and kareena was successful in emoting both the expressions so well. Your heart goes out to when she yells atEhsaan saying ‘Maar Daalo mujhe aur hamare hone wale Bache ko bhi’ (Kill me and our baby too). She was impeccable in the climax scene too where she helplessly stands watching her husband die. Her performance was widely appreciated but Kurbaan didn’t do that well at the BO as expected.
